Choosing the colours
Before you set about making a balloon garland, you might want to consider what colours you want to use. This largely depends on the theme and personal preference. You can design the balloons garlands using balloons of one colour, two colours, or a profuse range of rainbow colours. You can also make it as large or small as you want it.

For a little girl’s party, you might want to use white, pink, and purple – they are all beautiful colours that will go well for a princess or fairy party theme.
If you are choosing specific themes like the minions or superheroes, you might want to get colours appropriate for it. Go for blue and yellow for minions; red and white and blue for superheroes, and black and white for a more solemn adults New Year party.
Get the balloons ready
The first step is to buy as many balloons as you need to make the balloon garland. Keeping in mind that a few balloons can burst or have tears in them, plan to buy double what you’ll need. Blow them up manually.

If this is your choice of filling up the balloons and there are lots, ask help from your friends. On the other hand, you can buy a pump to fill them quickly and easily. Depending on the size of the garland you’ll need to get 50 to 100 balloons ready.
Making the garland
Use twine to secure the balloons and tie the twine to the base of the knots of the balloons. Now use a long piece of twine to tie up the balloons to each other and slide them up to retain the shape. For best results, you might want to use balloons of different colours and sizes. You don’t have to follow any specific pattern, especially if you are using random colours.

A trick for making it perfect is to mix in several smaller-sized balloons so that the garland fits more tightly. The only thing you’ll have to take care of throughout is to make sure that you slide them tightly together.
Garland tape and hooks
Balloon garland tape is useful for fixing other decorations along with the balloons, like sprigs of leaves or flowers.
A professional-looking balloon garland is not a magic trick that only a few can pull off. All you have to do for the perfect garland is to invest in some good quality garland tape. You can find it easily in any party supply store or in your local supermarket right next to the balloons.

Cut out the tape to the length of the garland you’re planning out. Start at one end by pushing the tied end of the balloons through the holes provided in the garland tape. If you are using different colours, arrange them in a regular colour scheme. Move from one end to another until the garland is complete! Voila! Your balloon garland is ready to adorn your party entrance.
Hanging the garland
You can hang the garland with the help of nails or temporary sticky hooks. After you hang them, you can adjust the balloons and move them around until you’ve found the perfect shape for your garland.
Tie a piece of string to each end of the garland and don’t forget to take help from someone to get it fixed. If you want to hang it on a wall, mark out how you’d want it to look and set about fixing hooks or sticky tapes in the wall. Hang the garland securely.

If you want to build an arch, you might want to do a little more prep. Find two supports and an arch-shaped portion on the top to hold up the balloons. Gently place the balloon garland over the support and continue rearranging the balloons until it is completed. Of course, an arch, depending on the size, will require lots of balloons, so make sure you’ve plenty blown up and ready to use!

Worried that you won’t have enough time to spend on making the garland just before a party? The good news is that if you get balloons of good material and durability and fill them up with maximum capacity so that they don’t deflate for a few days. You can get this done two days in advance and not worry about it deflating.
So, for your next party, don’t forget to include balloon garlands as decorations!
