Host a party at home
For those who would rather make their own fun at home, there are lots of options to get into the spirit. Ready-made costumes and themed decorations make it easy to create that Oktoberfest vibe.
Find a costume
An Oktoberfest party has to be a dress-up event. There are loads of options to buy inexpensive costumes for both the guys and the frauleins that they can have delivered to their homes fast. For something less traditional as the host you might want to go all out and dress up as a stein of beer or in a piggy back costume.

Stock up on fun accessories for those guests who do not want to dress up in the traditional lederhosen and dirndls. Whether it is themed top hats or shades, there are lots of great accessories to choose from. You can even get an Oktoberfest costume for your dog!
Decorate your space
If you have the space in your yard why not set up a beer tent, and decorate it with party lights, and themed flags and banners.

Blue and white are of course the traditional colours for an Oktoberfest party. Decorate your space with foil balloons, hanging decorations, banners, and flags. Then decorate your tables using themed table covers, plates, and napkins. Check out the range of Oktoberfest party decor which can be delivered straight to your door.
Fill up the fridge and stock up on the snacks
Of course it’s the beer and the German foods that are the key to an Oktoberfest party. These days it is easy to get a fantastic selection of Australian-brewed craft beers, as well as a great variety of beers imported from Germany. Another stand-out option for an Oktoberfest party is to get a keg for the event.

And when it comes to the food you can’t go wrong with pretzels, German sausages, sauerkraut and potato salad with gingerbread, apple strudels and candied almonds the perfect option to finish off with.
Turn up the music
There's no doubt that the right music is also a key ingredient for your event. Okay, you might not be able to provide a live accordion player and bell ringers, but there are lots of options for playlists of Bavarian music and Oktoberfest songs. Make sure you feature “Ein Prosit" regularly in your playlist. This song is played every 20-30 minutes in the tents in Munich. Every time this song is played, guests are encouraged to stand up, raise their glasses and sing along. At the conclusion of the song, you should toast everyone around you and take a drink. After all “Ein Prosit” means “a toast”.
Oktoberfest games
There are many games that you can play at an Oktoberfest party. You might want to plan some beer drinking or pretzel eating contests or once a bit of beer drinking has taken place you could organise relays and balancing contests involving full beer mugs (with appropriate consequences for those who come last!)

So get set to party hard this Oktoberfest 2022!
