 It’s green everywhere on St Patrick’s Day which is a religious holiday in Ireland.The celebrations are dated centuries ago to remember the Saint who played a major role in establishing Christianity in Ireland. March 17th is also believed to be St Patrick’s death anniversary.

 Mawyn Succat, a paganist born in Great Britain changed his name as Patricis at the Catholic church and is fondly known as Patrick. It is believed that the theme of St Patrick's Day was Blue and later it was changed to GREEN for numerous reasons.

Orange, White and Green

The flag of Ireland has Orange, white and green. Orange represents the Protestants,Green represents the Irish Catholics and white represents the peace between Catholics and Protestants. The Shamrocks

There isn’t a celebration without Shamrocks! Shamrocks play an important role in Ireland as it is considered to be the national symbol. People also believe that St. Patrick used the Shamrock to teach about Holy Trinity [one father, one son and one Holy Spirit]. The clover is also considered as a symbol of good luck.

Ireland welcome Spring in the month of March. March 17 is considered as the ‘First day’of Spring. Nature turns white snow-capped places into the fresh green. In the 1800s, the immigrants wore green

During the mid-1800s, a large population of Irish moved to the United States. Most of them wore green and they also carried the flag of Ireland (to represent the national pride). Chicago River turns green

Since 1962, Chicago River turns green to mark St Patrick’s festival. 40 pounds of orange powder is added to the Chicago River which turns the water green. And that’s another reason for you to wear green for this special occasion.
